Additives
GroutAid®
A microsilica based additive intended to improve cement injection grout performance.

Introduction
GroutAid®, a microsilica based additive for use in combination with microcement and other cement-based grouts, is stated to have been developed by Elkem Materials of Norway during the last decade.
The use of GroutAid is stated to increase the efficiency of injection grouting by improving both the plastic and hardened properties of the grout, enabling injection into soils and cracks in rock and concrete.
This improved permeation capability is stated to further reduce the need to use chemical grouts, with advantages described as cost reduction and environmental safety.

Stability (summary)
A stable, non-segregating grout is described as beneficial for successful injection. The addition of GroutAid is described as adding a large number of extremely fine particles of very high specific surface area, keeping particles suspended without settling, even at high water/powder ratios.
Pure cement grouts are stated to be stable up to water/powder ratios of approximately 1.0. Stable grouts with water/powder ratios as high as 6.0 are stated as achievable by replacing a proportion of cement with GroutAid.
Penetration (summary)
GroutAid particles are described as filling voids between cement particles and producing a grout with minimal bleeding and segregation. Under injection pressure, solids remain in suspension and are described as not being deposited close to the borehole. At the same dry solids content, GroutAid and cement based grouts are stated to have improved penetrability compared to pure cement-based grouts.
Strength, permeability & durability (summary)
Microsilica particles in GroutAid are described as reacting with calcium hydroxide formed during cement hydration, increasing binder and improving strength and durability. Reduced permeability and improved interface between grout and formation are also described.
GroutAid is described as a non-toxic, mineral based product.
Applications & dosage
GroutAid® is stated to suit applications where cement-based grouts are used currently. Dosage is stated to vary from 5% upward, depending on application and the nature of the cements; specific advice may be provided by a MultiGrout® specialist representative or authorised agent.
GroutAid is stated to be a key component of the MultiGrout® injection grouting system (ultrafine & microfine cements, GroutAid®, dispersing agent, and “Blocker” cement).
The MultiGrout Team
MultiGrout activities are stated to extend beyond materials supply and are supported through a world-wide network of representatives. Four key service elements are listed as:
- Materials supply
- Application methodology
- Education / on-the-job training
- Engineering / design support
